Every Day


Ickworth - 50 Things to do before you're 11 and three quarters, 9am-5pm
Come to Ickworth to try out some activities every child should do before they're 11 and three quarters. Join us for a series of activities and try out some new things; eat some wild blackberries, find a geocache, build a den or climb a tree. You can also look inside a tree, make a mud pie and enjoy a wide variety of activities with friends and family. See how many things you can do at Ickworth and other National Trust properties.

Saturday 1 December


Ely Christmas Craft Fair, 10am-4pm
Ely Cathedral. Over 30 stalls, inside and out.  Come in from the cold and find that perfect Christmas present. Handmade Christmas decorations, toys, gifts, cards, jewellery, art & much more. Hot drinks and mince pies are also available from our cafe.

Christmas Tree Festival, 10.30am
Ely Methodist Church. Christmas fair and Christmas lunches available between 12-2pm.

Mill Road Winter Fair, 10.30am-4.30pm
Enjoy this yearly community event and celebrate the coming of winter and the unique qualities of Mill Road. It's the perfect way to spend the first Saturday of December. You can come to dance and sing, taste the finest treats and purchase locally made, interesting gifts and celebrate with neighbours, friends and family. Children's activities all day at Romsey Mill and the EF language school in Romsey as well as Hope Street Yard, Romsey. This year there will be a treasure trail to lead your family all around the great sites of Mill Road.

Botanic Gardens: Christmas Decorations, 11am-3pm
Come and make some pine cone fairies and twiggy stars, to decorate your Christmas tree at home. Part of our drop-in Family Saturdays series which take place on the first Saturday of every month.

Fitzwilliam Museum: Family First Saturdays, 2-4pm
On the first Saturday of each month visit our Fitz Family Welcome Point in the Courtyard and collect drawing materials, activities and trails to use throughout the museum.

Chatteris Christmas Lights Switch On, 4.30pm
Switch-on night has become one of the main events of the year for Chatteris. The Town Centre is packed as traders entertain their customers with seasonal cheer and street entertainment and fair ground rides keep the crowds happy. The event includes Community Stalls with a festive feel in the Market Hill area. The Salvation Army hold a Christmas Fayre where there is a chance to pick up some bargains for presents and decorations. Everyone enjoys the Variante Ensemble who play seasonal music in Market Hill Gardens. There is always a queue of eager children waiting to visit Santa in his grotto at The Old Baker. In St Peter & St Paul's Parish Church the annual Christmas Tree Festival is always a very popular attraction, as are their refreshments. The Emmanuel Church in East Park Street serve hot soup.

Christmas at Wimpole Estate, 11am-4pm
Join us as Wimpole celebrates the sights and sounds of Christmas; Christmas trees are decorated, the Hall is traditionally bedecked for a grand Christmas Eve supper; enjoy the brass band paying carols in the Stable Block amidst the scent of mulled wine and roast chestnuts in the air.

Ickworth: Family Christmas Sparkle, 11am-4pm
Join us for a celebratory family Christmas where we'll be making decorations, crackers and treats, sitting next to the fire with stories and gifts from Father Christmas, listening to choirs lifting the roof of the Rotunda and decorating the hall and basement with style.

Anglesey Abbey: Winter Lights, 6-9pm
A celebration of an English country garden, seen in a different light. With the gardens lit up, you will enjoy an evening of delights and see our famous silver birch grove as it's never been seen before. Come and be enchanted by our beautifully lit gardens, music and entertainment for all ages.

Cambridge Arts Theatre: Oliver, 2.30pm and 7.30pm
Based on the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, the musical follows the adventures of the orphan boy Oliver as he escapes from the brutalities of the poorhouse and finds refuge with small time crook, Fagin, and his gang of pick-pocketing children!

Stretham Farmers Market and Christmas Lights Ceremony, 12-5pm
Local produce on sale and bbq. Christmas art and craft market in the church. The village Christmas Light switch-on will take place at 4pm by the village cross.

Christmas Fun at Huntingdon Library, 2-3pm
Join us for Family Fun Christmas Activities at Huntingdon Library. Taking place on Saturdays and Sundays between 2pm and 3pm throughout December. There is no charge and no need to book.

Trumpington Christmas Fair, 12-3pm
Trumpington Residents’ Association (TRA) is organising a Christmas Fair at the Pavilion and Playing Fields on Anstey Way in Trumpington. The event promises to be a fantastic day for all the family. Come and have a go on the Zorb balls or try your hand at the Snowman Shy. There will also be craft stalls, quizzes, face-painting, games for children (and adults!) of all ages, along with a variety of refreshments. Trumpington Church Junior Choir will entertain us with their singing and the Mayor will be there to draw the Rainbow Hamper Raffle. Everyone's welcome!

Willingham Primary School Christmas Fayre
Family fun event and great for Christmas shopping without the high street hassle. Local craft and produce stalls. Christmas trees and wreaths for sale. Seasonal refreshments. Visit Santa's Grotto. Children's only Secret Shop for gifts for parents and carers.

Following the great success of last year's production of Cinderella, Cambridge Arts Theatre's traditional pantomime is back! Jack and the Beanstalk is a giant of an adventure for the whole family to enjoy.

Christmas at Denny Abbey, 12-4.30pm
Carols by candlelight in the Abbey and seasonal refreshments. Make and take home cards and gifts for the family and friends. Fun for all the family.

Wicken Fen: Father Christmas at the Fen, 10.30-11.30am, 11.15am-12.15pm, 12-1pm, 1.45-2.45pm, 2.30-3.30pm
Follow the Christmas trail on the Fen to discover Father Christmas as he warms himself by the fire in Fen Cottage. He will have presents to hand out, and you can also do some natural Christmas craft. Booking essential.

Lavenham Christmas Fair, 10am-5pm
Come to the beautiful medieval village of Lavenham to experience a truly magical Christmas. Around the village will be rides, entertainment and fantastic stalls selling all manner of essential gifts. Inside the historic Guildhall you'll find a craft exhibition with high quality and unique products, as well as a Food Hall bursting with locally made, tasty treats. There will be a lantern walk at 4.30pm – tickets needed in advance.

St Mary’s Church: Hallelujah – a Child is Born, 7pm
Christmas choruses from Handel’s Messiah will feature in the first half of the concert. Choir and audience will join together in the second half with seasonal music and carols. Readings between the music will add to the joy of Christmas. Concert Programmes and Christmas refreshments included in the ticket price.

Ickworth's glistening carol service, 6.00-7.30pm
Join us for our festive carol service in the West Wing with Ickworth Park Primary choir and Horringer church to celebrate this wonderful season. Mince pies and mulled wine on offer and the shop will remain open until 7.30pm. A wonderful feel good singing and cheering evening in the run up to Chirstmas.

Prickwillow Drainage Engine Museum: Christmas Special, 11am-4pm
Your last chance of the year to see the large diesel engines in action. Some craft stalls will offer unusual Christmas present ideas and there will be traditional music from a visiting street organ. Hot and cold lunches will be available as well as the ever popular mince pies, and, of course, activities for the children. The historic City of Ely fire appliance will be in steam - if you haven’t seen it since it has been brought back to life now is your chance!

Cambridge Junction: The DIY Nativity, 11.30am and 2.30pm
This December join Bryony, Sam and Stuart as they battle to re-discover the joy of Christmas. Escape the sprouts, stuffing and stocking fillers for a riotous celebration of all things festive. You may even find the true meaning of Christmas along the way. Expect a queen’s speech, flat pack construction, fat santas and a whole lot more. It’s a DIY Nativity for all ages and you guys are in charge! (Interactive but not scary…we promise!)

Sawston Sports Centre Family Fun Day - Christmas Special, 10am-4pm
Sawston Sports Centre will be hosting another fun filled day full of activities for all the family. There will be lots of activities to try including Badminton, Table Tennis, Squash, Water Zorbing, Beat. The Goalie, Trampolining and lots more. We will also be having our Bouncy Castles along with SANTA'S GROTTO, an area for children to design their own Christmas cards and plenty of stalls.

A great Christmas show for all the family!

Huntingdonshire Philharmonic Children's Concert (Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts Centre), 5pm
Meet the instruments of the orchestra in 'Peter and the Wolf' with narrator Richard Walmsley and take a sleigh ride with the Hunts Phil in this enchanting concert for young children. When Peter opened the gate and went out into the big green meadow he didn't know that he was about to have his biggest adventure ever! Follow Peter's story as he meets his friends the bird, the duck and the cat. And find out what happens to them all when the big grey wolf comes out of the forest. Our Family Christmas Concert at 7.45pm is a longer version of this programme with additional Christmas music and carols.

Ely Maltings: The Mayor’s Family Concert with Ely Sinfonia – The Night Before Christmas, 2pm and 3.30pm
What better start to Christmas than a family outing to the Mayor's extravanga for the children of Ely? This year's fundraising event features free children's games, visit Santa in his grotto (small additional charge) festive refreshments on sale. Hear local celebrity narrator Jeremy Harmer performing the Night Before Christmas (expect the unexpected with this hilarious version). Volunteer to try out the handbells in the Coventry Carol, Round the concert off by singing carols unil we lift the roof off the Maltings.

The stalls have everything - from Turkey to Tinsel, from Mistletoe to Mince Pies, from Beef Joints to Brussels and from Stuffing to Santa.... There are also charity stalls and traditional traders, fairground rides, carol singers, street organs, holly wreaths, Xmas trees - and more!!! You name it and you'll find it there - with Santa, various entertainers, live bands, period costumed strollers, a hog roast and a lively festive atmosphere to match!
