Etheldreda Fair (Palace Green,
Ely), 10.00am-5.00pm
Fun For All The Family. Over 40 stalls, Games, Crafts, Plants, Raffle,
Pimms, Champagne & Strawberries and Afternoon Tea.
The fair gets going from 11am with the main Strawberry Parade – and
this year there is a twist, the parade is cycling themed. The bicycles will
meet on Jesus Green before weaving around town with the rhythms of samba band,
Arco Iris, and the long legs of Park Arts Stilters. From 12.00 – 18.00 the Kids
Area is a safe, secure area for children and families only. Activities from
clown shows to science demonstrations, from footie for toddlers to
fingerpainting in the messy tent will keep younger visitors amused all
afternoon. Other attractions include bouncy castles, music workshops and a
gallery of aliens. Homeless charity, Wintercomfort, are running the kids café
and there is a dedicated quiet area for nursing mothers.
Little Downham Village Fete
Little Downham Village Fete is happening on Saturday 1st June 2013 and
is a great day out for the whole family! There will be a beer tent, food
stands, children's races, the and cakes, a huge kite display, tug of war and lots
of fantastic stalls! Free entry so come to enjoy all of the above as well as
experience the human hamster balls and go karts!
Mayor of Ely's Summer Saturdays
Programme (Market Square), 6.00-10.00pm
Entertainment from 6.00pm to 10.00pm. Bring a chair and food &
drink. Build a community. Support your city centre and buy your food from local
eateries or have a takeaway delivered and collect from the PICK UP POINT on the
Market Place.
Welney WWT: Half Term Family
Activities, 9.30am-5.00pm
Daily activities (available all day): Arts and craft activities in the
pond room; Activity clipboards to take
out on the reserve (suggested 50p donation);
Self-led pond-dipping with all the equipment provided on the reserve;
Spring is in the air discovery trail, pick up a leaflet and find out about art
in nature around the reserve. On Saturday only: Magical moths 10.30-11.30am,
Water vole walk 1.00-2.00pm, Bug hunt and hotel making 2.30-3.30pm.
Welney WWT: Family Pong Dipping,
9.30am-5.00pm
Every weekend this month try your hand at pond-dipping with all the
equipment provided to help you make magical discoveries. As you cross the footbridge from the car park
to the visitor centre, take a minute to listen and look for the secretive water
voles that make Welney their home. Spend
a day out exploring the reserve with our discovery trail and make sure you
don't miss a thing with our Summer activity clipboards (recommended 50p
donation). Listen out for the cuckoo’s
call and keep your eyes peeled for the dragonflies and damselflies zipping
along the waterways. Then watch breeding
birds sitting on nests or feeding their chicks from the wigeon cafe over a bite
to eat at lunchtime.
Fitzwilliam Museum, Family First
Saturdays, 2.00-4.00pm
On the first Saturday of each month visit our Fitz Family Welcome Point
in the Courtyard and collect drawing materials, activities and trails to use
throughout the museum
Cambridge Botanic Garden, Mini Scarecrows,
11.00am-3.00pm
Make the scariest mini scarecrows you can. Will yours be sparkly or
sci-fi, traditional or very modern? Drop-in – no booking required.

The Mayor's Party in the Park

Hosted by Ryan Taylor of Star Radio. ABBA Tribute Band, Soulved, Just
William & The Outlaws, Local Bands & Acts Plus Activities &
Displays. Beer Tent, Food & Drinks Available.
The 2013 Show will be the fourteenth to be held at Wimpole and features
will include traditional crafts, livestock, food hall, rural crafts and
displays, vintage tractors, fairground, children's corner and ring events plus
much more. There will be a great variety of trade stands, from country
clothing, agricultural dealers, garden equipment and furniture, plants and
shrubs, to wrought iron work and activity toys.
The Main Ring will have a varied programme of displays and activities to
keep everyone entertained. These include sheep dog handling, terrier racing
(please bring your dogs, any breeds, if you would like to) and a variety of
hilarious Young Farmer competitions.

Family Fridays! 10.30am-12.30pm
Join us in the Folk Museum attic every Friday from 10.30-12.30 for fun
and interactive volunteer-led workshops designed for young children and their
parents or carers. Workshops are FREE with the cost of admission. No need to
book in advance but space is limited. This Friday - Washday in the Museum
Laundry: help us wash our dirty laundry in the old way! Use a posser and
mangle, grate the soap and hang out the washing to dry in your mop cap and
apron.

With something for everyone, from Horkesley Park’s Heavy Horse
Demonstration Team, full size and scale Steam Engines, The Goat Show –
featuring milking and have a go bottle feeding of lambs and kids, Birds of Prey
and Owl displays, Children’s Entertainment, Donkey Rides, Swords of Chivalry
battle re-enactments and medieval village and Fighting Knights, have a go with
the Totally Terriers racing team or try your hand at grooming with the Totally
Ponies team, as well as a childrens’ farm and ferret racing right in the heart
of the City. On Sunday this year we also have the Companion Dog Show – so bring
along a canine friend and have a go! (And all proceeds from entries will go to
Marie Curie Cancer Care). There will also be a glorious display of full and
scale model steam engines as well as farm machinery. And if that’s not all – as
well as demonstrations of stick furniture making stone masonry and thatching,
the children can also have a go at making traditional Corn Dollies as well as
other free environmentally friendly activities.
Houghton Mill: Cambridge Touring
Theatre Presents Treasure Island-A Swashbuckling Family Musical, 4.30-5.15pm

Join our two young heroes - Jim and Ruth - as they find a treasure map
and set sail for adventure. Along the way they'll learn important lessons about
loyalty and friendship - and discover whether Long John Silver can be trusted!
Suitable for all ages, the performance is outdoors, interactive and full of

Wimpole Estate: Den Building, 10.30am-12.30pm
Come along to a fun family event and have a go at building your own den
in our woodland belts. Guided by our Ranger utilise fallen branches, leaves and
other natural materials to build your den, and then watch it be 'tested' at the
end of the session. Booking essential.
From the creators of Despicable Me and the imagination of Dr. Seuss
comes the 3D-CG feature Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, an adaptation of the classic tale
of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated
adventure follows the journey of a 12-year-old as he searches for the one thing
that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it
he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who
fights to protect his world.

Open Farm Sunday at Hainey Farm
(Barway), 10.00am-3.00pm
Come and see firsthand how your salads and vegetables are grown at one
of the UK's largest salad producers. Meet the farmers at G's annual open day
and find out how sustainable food production can work alongside protecting the
environment in which we all live. There's something to entertain all the family
with farm tours, local farmers' market, machinery displays, cookery demo's, and
lots for the children including an insect corner, face painting, and pedal
tractors - and lots more! Free entrance and parking. Disabled access to farm
tours and indoor venue - so don't worry about the weather. Refreshments
available include BBQ, ice creams and tea & cakes.
Jazz and Brass in the Parks

Selected Sundays from June to September there will be jazz and brass
bands playing in Cambridge’s parks and open spaces for you to enjoy. Each event
is entirely FREE, so just turn up, bring a picnic, enjoy the sounds and relax
in the cooling summer breeze! This Sunday is Freddie and Friends New Orleans
Jazz Men at Cherry Hinton Hall Grounds.
Kettle’s Yard: Studio Sundays,

Drop in free practical art workshops for all ages. Join us to make your
own artwork inspired by our exhibitions and collection. A chance to explore, chat,
sketch, make and play.
Car Treasure Hunt (Soham),
11.30am
This is a fun event for all the family. Along (approx) 30-mile route
amidst charming countryside participants will follow a pre-arranged route of
clues to fill in a questionnaire about the scenery and surroundings based on
the clues and interpretations. You might be asked also to pick up some unusual
objects along the way! Good observation will be put to the test, and of course
there are prizes for the winning team! Great fun! (No matter what the
weather!!) All welcome. £5 per car. Starts at Soham
Football Club at 11:30 am and finishes at 3pm when the results will be announced and
prizes awarded.

Midsummer Fair (Midsummer

This ancient fair has been visiting the city’s Midsummer Common for
over 800 years, making it the country’s
oldest travelling fun fair. The first day of the fair sees the Mayor and other
members of the Council continuing the age old tradition of parading the Fair
open by scattering pennies to the crowd. Come down at 6.30pm on the opening
Wednesday evening for a truly special and historical spectacle. Royston Town
Brass Band lead the procession.
Featuring all the rides associated with a traditional fun fair, and the
very best white-knuckle rides, you can also expect the usual fun of the fair
including candyfloss, hot dogs, toffee apples and more.

The long weekend of the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of June is going to be
packed with activities for all ages, refreshments and food, stalls, live music
and demonstrations and performances from a huge variety of the fantastic groups
we have within the Fen Edge. On Friday, Cottenham Toy Library will be running
their popular Pre-school Fun Day on Friday 21st and the primary school's PTCA
will bring dancing and live music to The Green that night. Both events are
always a sell out so make sure you get your tickets early if you want to join
in the fun.

skills to successfully pass through the number pyramid and the mixed-up jungle
to reach the City of Lost Toys. But watch out - you never know what that sneaky
fox Swiper might be up to along the way!

Ely Cinema: Cave-family activity
& The Croods (PG), 2.00pm
Join us for our final family feature before we Go Digital! Drop in Cave-family activity from 2pm with
artists Ricki & Cary Outis. Help us create Ely’s largest cave painting
before our main feature in the auditorium (3.00pm). All materials supplied –
just bring your prehistoric little one. The Croods is a prehistoric comedy
adventure that follows the world's first family as they embark on a journey of
a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is
destroyed. Travelling across a spectacular landscape, the Croods discover an
incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures -- and their outlook is
changed forever.
Ely: Cambridgeshire Festival of
Cycling (Market Place), 10.30am-4.30pm
Come along and try out free cycle-related activities including:
•Bike Try-Out, with children’s, tandem, folding, electric and wacky
bikes available
•Turn pedal power into fresh fruit smoothies through a specially
adapted bike
•Bike maintenance check
•Stalls selling cycle crafts
•Cycling competitions
The March Veteran and Vintage Cycling Club will also be attending and
bringing with them rare bikes ranging from 1830s-1940s and be dressed in period
costume. The Cambridgeshire Festival of Cycling is a great opportunity for
everyone to find out more about cycling, from the keen cyclist to those who
have never ridden before. County Council staff will also be on hand to speak to
residents about their views on local cycling facilities.
