We had a great family day out at Church Farm a few weeks ago, so I thought I’d write a quick review about it for the blog, just in case you were thinking of going – or hadn’t even heard of it!
Likewise, if you’ve had a good day out somewhere and would like to
review it for us, please let us know (contact details below).
Church Farm is a rare breeds centre in Stow Bardolph (near
Downham Market). It took us about 25 minutes to get there, straight up the
A10. The admission was quite expensive but worth the money (£7.20 for adults,
£6.20 for 3-16 year olds & senior citizens, £2.50 for 2 year olds, free for
under 2’s and £25 for a family ticket. Season tickets also available).
When we got there, we headed straight for the petting areas –
these had goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens and quails. The goats were
surprisingly friendly. The others weren’t too interested!
There were also barns and pens with other animals – mainly pigs,
goats, guinea pigs, chickens and horses. It was obviously piglet season as there were
dozens of the cute little things running around! They seemed fairly relaxed about putting your hands in and having a stroke!
Maria (our one year old) was more interested in the play
areas than the animals! Outside, there was a large adventure playground with a
hay barn and huge sandpit, and an area with ride-on and pedal tractors. The trampolines were a top attraction! Inside,
there was a play area next to the cafe with slides, climbing equipment and
toys. It was worth the admission for these alone!
There were events on throughout the day. We went on a
tractor ride around the farm (£1 each on top of admission) and watched the pig
racing.
For lunch, we brought our own and ate in the picnic area –
but they also have a cafe where you can buy lunch, drinks and snacks.
We spent about five hours there in total. I was completely
exhausted by the end of it but would definitely go again!
Church Farm is a must for small children! If you’re
thinking of going this summer, there are events on throughout the holidays. More
information can be found on their website http://www.churchfarmstowbardolph.co.uk/index.asp
